![]() ![]() Slocum was proud to be a Nova Scotian, people he described as "hardy, robust, and strong." He claimed that he had been "om the first" by "the wonderful sea." He sailed on many ships, commanding several. Along the way he had a great many adventures. He arrived home on June 27, 1898, the first person to sail alone around the world.
